Hello everyone! I am Luciana, 23 years old, from Brazil and I am doing an one month humanitarian work at SIDART NGO. I hold a bachelor degree in Law, awarded by the State University of Londrina, in Brazil, and I am enrolled on a Master programme in Human Rights at the University of Essex, in England.
After being two times in India, I must say that it is a fascinating country, with a rich culture and lots of contrasts. However, I could also witness some problems faced by the society and the one which more impressed me was related to the gender inequalities. These experiences have motivated my decision to pursue a volunteer work in this area.
I have chosen SIDART not only because of its great focus on women empowerment and capacitation, but also because of the variety of projects that have been developed in different fields, such as road safety and healthy, which undoubtedly plays an important role in the Indian society.
On my first day of volunteer, we have visited a slum, where we made questions and gave orientation to the mothers about maternity, breastfeed and vaccination, focusing on child health. This has confirmed my expectation of making a positive change in the situation of women and underprivileged people in India through this humanitarian work at SIDART.
