International Conference on Women Empowerment and Sustainable Development Goals : Annual Feature
Society for Integrated Developmental Activities, Research, and Training (SIDART), in collaboration with UN GCNI, organized an Annual International Conference on Women Empowerment and SDGs devoted to champion the cause of women in every field on an annual basis. This conference was the opportunity to view the benefits that gender equality, women empowerment, and sustainable development can bring to society; moreover, to resume the challenges of the future.
In this Multi stakeholder conference, there were participants from NGO, government, bilateral and multilateral organinsations, academia, media world etc
SIDART is recognised as a non-governmental organisation in collaboration with several intergovernmental organisations from all over the world. Actually, the NGO has built many programs empowering women to participate at the lowest level in democratic setup at Panchayats.
India is changing and, more precisely, the heart of the change are its women. The subject of women empowerment has becoming a burning issue since last few decades, and it remains a major challenge. A set of empowerment measures and intervention are being widened to impact sanitation, health, education, financial inclusion, security and dignity of women.
Nevertheless, the proportion of women working in decent jobs outside agriculture remains low; women in farming are constrained by lack of land ownership; and women are poorly represented in parliament. Moreover, sustainable development which is “a way of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” cannot achieve without a more equity gender. Thus we aim to integrate women empowerment into the environmental and economic dimension achieve truly sustainable development on a global scale.
The Conference was a two-day program which included a series of panels exploring different aspects:
1. SIDART’s projects achieved by the Women Village Volunteers
2. Study session on “Women Empowerment and Sustainable Development Goals”
3. An open discussion to explore new solutions and perspectives. It is highly dedicated to those interested in gaining knowledge and experience related to the topics as well as they want to share their own achievements.
Optionally, field visits were organized on the 20th December 2015 in some Panchayats to contemplate the work done by the Women Village Volunteers.
In details, the conference aimed to bring together the following
· Government officials and policy makers to learn more about the new approaches related to women’s issues, gender equality and sustainable development
· International NGOs and colleagues from around the world to share their experience and strategies with others.
· Graduate students interested in improving their knowledge on the topics and communication skills, to make some positive changes around them then carry out useful projects to their own community.
· Company representatives who want to improve their leadership skills and learn more about the new approaches related to the issues raised by the conference, then share their ideas with new potential partners.
· Experts and researchers interested in sharing their skills, their knowledge from a technical and scientific point of view so that they help policy makers, administrators and educational leaders…
